My ever true friend August ye 21st 1705

I expected your son Mr. Joseph here last week I hope we shall see him this week; on Friday night last happened sad fire in Towcester which broke out about two of the clock in the morning in begun at the sign of the Tomambedlum and consumed severall wagons and loads of carriers goods with 15 horses. Severall houses are burnt with quantities of corn and hay; amongst which poor Tho. Caporn is burnt to ye ground his hopuse barnes stables corn & hay; I hope to see you here shortly my wife joyns with me in our service to you and your family and so doth both my sons which is all at present from Sr.
