Frances Brookes 1677

In the name of God Amen. The 18th. day of October in the year of our Lord God 1659 I Frances Brookes of Grafton Regis in the County of Northampton widow being sicke in body but of good and perfect memorie (thanks bee to Almighty God for it) Doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following. And first beeing penitent & sorrowfull for my Sins past humbly desiring forgiveness of the same I give and commit my soul unto Almighty God my Saviour & Redeemer by the merits of whom I trust to be saved & to have forgiveness of all my sins. And my body to bee buried in the Church yard of Grafton Regis by my husband. And for the [settling of my temporal estate] & such goods as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon mee, I doe give and bestow the same in manner and form following.
[Imprimis] I give unto my son in law William Foster's children Ten pounds, to bee payd unto them at my death.
[Item] I give unto Francis Brookes the daughter of Samuell Brookes eight pounds in monies One joint bed now in her father's possession, One feather bed, one bolster, three Blankets, one Coverlet A Coffer & three paire of sheets therein One table , one great ketle to bee payd her at eighteen years of age; If shee so long lives but if shee die before that age the aforesaid monies and goods to goe to the rest of Samuell Brookes his children, & bee divided amongst them by equal proportions
[Item] I give to Robert Brookes the Son of Samuel Brookes five pounds to bee payed unto him at One & twenty years of age, & one Bedstead, One Table [one chayre] One cupboard, & one coffer, all the said goods hee shall possess after the death of Samuell Brookes his father.
[Item] I give unto Richard Brookes the son of Samuell Brookes five pounds One table at his fathers disposeing; To bee payd unto him at One & twenty years of age. If hee die before that age, the said five pounds [and table] to bee equally divided amongst his brethren
[Item] I give unto Samuell Brookes, the son of Samuell Brookes foure pounds to be payd unto him at One & twenty years of age, but if hee die bee fore that age the said foure pounds to bee equally divied amongst his brethren .
[Item] I give to Gabriell Brookes the son of Samuell Brookes five pounds to bee payd unto him, at the age of one & twenty years of age, but if hee die bee fore that age the said five pounds to bee equally divided amongst his brethren & further it is my will that Samuell Brookes their father shall have the interest of all his childrens portions until they come to age, to receive their portions.
[Item] I give unto Robert Brookes my oldest son five pounds to be payd unto him within halfe a year after my death; provided always that hee put my executors to no trouble or vexation about my will or the Legacies therein expressed. If hee doo I give him [but] twenty shillings.
[Item] I give unto my son Samuell Brookes three pounds to bee payd unto him six weeks after my death whom I make my executor to pay the Legacies herein given & exp[ressed to the several parties] when it is due unto them & to discharge my funeral expenses . For which I give twenty shillings.
[Lastly] I make William Foster my son in law overseer of this my will to bee assistant to my executor for the payment of the Legacies herein given in witness where of, I have here unto put my hande & seal the day & year first above written
