Dawson John 1783

In the Name of God. I John Dawson of Grafton in the County of Northampton. Carpenter being of perfect mind and memory through the mercy of God. Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following ( that is to say) First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator, hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ to obtain pardon and remission of all my Sins, and to Inherit everlasting life. And my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named, I Bequeath to Ann my Wife all my Household goods, Beer, Brewing – Utensils , House and Premises together with all bills, bonds, of what sort soever or whosoever for and during her natural life, and after her decease, I give all the said goods and House to my Daughter Ann Dawson to her and her Heirs forever. I likewise give my sons Richard and Thomas all my Carpenter’s Tools Implements for well digging to be equally divided between them share and share alike. I also constitute and appoint Mr. John Carvell the whole and sole Executor in trust of this my last will and testament and my desire is that my said Executor in trust do allow reasonable charges for his trouble.

And I do hereby utterly revoke disallow and disannul all former Bequeaths Wills and Legacies by me heretofore in any wise left or made declaring ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament Witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal this Sixteenth day of March in the Year of our Lord 1782.

On the 5th. Nov. 1783 John Carvell the sole Executor named in the within Will was Sworn well and faithfully to Perform the same & that the Debt of the time of his Death was not Proposed of personal Estate to the amount of Forty Pounds.
