In the mane of god Amen The xviij [18]th day of October in the year of our lord god 1580 I John Goodman of Grafton Regis in the countie of Northampton beinge sicke in bodie but of good and perfect mynd and memorie thankes therefore be given to Almyghtie god doe ordayne and make this my last will and testament in manner and forme Followyng first I bequeath my soule to Almyghtie god my maker saviour and redeemer in whome and by the merits of whose blessed [passion] is all my [trust and hope] of free re[miss]ion and [cleane forgevnes] of all my synnes and my bodye to be buryed in the church yard of Grafton afore said Item I give to the mother church of Peterborough [vijd] Item I give and bequeath the [the howse and Ferme wherin I nowe] dwell to William my sonne. my will is that my said [sonne] shall [have] his two acres of corne [yearlie as he hath had heartofore and half ] the rest that groweth [yearlie uppon the ferme; and my wife & my [daughter] Elizabeth [thother halfe during] my wiffe's naturall life. [And yf it please God to call to his mercie] my wiffe before three years next [ensuinge] then my will is that my said sonne shall paye or [cause] to be payed to Elizabeth my daughter fourtene pounds [sterlinge at two] payments within two years next [after] my wiffe's decease; [Yf that] it please god my wiffe [live iiij] years after my deceasse then my will is that he shall [paye thone] halfe of the [some] of the said fourtene pounds [aforesaid] unto my said daughter and William my sonne thother halfe in such manner and forme as is aforesaid. Also my will is that my said sonne shall have a sufficient provision found to dryve plowe, and Cart, and Load Cart at my wiffes charge to be found duringe my wiffes liffe. Item I geve to my wiffe two kyne at her choyse. Item I geve to William my sonne two other kyne. Item I geve to my wiffe and my said daughter xxtie shepe. Item I geve to my sonne Sadlers children fyve shepe more.
And my will is that my said sonne William shall have my team with plowes, carts, harrowes and all other furniture belonginge thearunto to eare tyll and occupie the Farme and to use them to his best behalfe. Item I geve to my said daughter Elizabeth my great pott and a great panne and a platter and to William my sonne two pewter dyshes. And my will is that my wiffe shall fynd sufficient seed alwayes for her part. Also my will ys that my wiffe shall have howse roome, and fleete for her and my daughter tyll she marrie and that my sonne shall use her as a child ought to use his mother in all things duringe her liffe, and that she shall paye yearlie duringe her liffe xs a yeare towards the rent, and she to have her cattle kept uppon my farme, and that the howse be mayntayned and kept at both their charges indifferentlie, and that the stuffe and fodder be spent uppon the farme, and none carried awaye. Item The Rest of my horses, mares, and colts, and my croppe in the barne to sowe my land, and fynd the howse. Item I geve to William my sonne my ?stepf.te? and a malt myll. Item I geve to Thomas Windmill xls. & the Rest of my goods and chattels I geve to Agnes my wiffe and William my sonne whom I ordeyne and make my whole executors. and my will is that my wiffe shall have such goods unbequeathed duringe her liffe and after to leave them with my said sonne. And that they see my debts payed, and my funerall discharged and I ordeyne & make William Sewell and John Whalley my oversears to se this my will performed. And that my executors shall geve to the Church of Grafton xijd and to the oversears xijd a peece. Witness are John Whalley and William Saywell
