Christopher Merry 1656
In the name of god Amen I Christopher Merry of Grafton Regis in the Countie of Northampton Shepherd being weake and sicke in body but of perfect minde and rememberance Thanks begiven to Allmightie God Doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament this twelveth day off may the years of our lord God one thousand sixe hundred ffiftie and sixe In manner and form followinge (vist) ffisrt I give my soule to Almightie God my maker and Creator who gave it to mee hoping to be saved by the merritts death passion and resurrection of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ my redeemer who freely shed his most precious bloud for my redemption And my body to bee buried in Christian manner Imprims I give and bequeath unto Alice Norman my sister halfe my house and homestall with all and every of there appurtenances thereunto belonginge duringe her naturall life quietly and peaceably to enjoy the same; The other halfe I give and bequeath unto my kinsman Christopher Normen her sonne to have the use of the same with her duringe her said naturall life And after her decease to him and his heires forever item I give unto my said sister Alice Norman widdowe The one halfe of my household goods moveable and unmovable whatsoever which are in and about my said house and homestall or any where else eyther on the ground or off. Item I give unto my said kinsman Christopher Norman her said sonne, All the other halfe of my goods movable and unmovable whatsoever which are about my house and homestall in Grafton aforesaid or elsewhere equally with his said mother throughout to him and his heirs forever. Item I give unto my said Sister Alice Norman the one halfe of all my cattle (vizt) Cowes and sheepe which I nowe have, The other halfe I give to my said kinsman Christopher Norman (vizt) of my cowes and sheepe Item I give unto my kinsman the said Christopher Norman my mare. Item I give unto Francis Norman my kinsman, my blacke mare. Item I give unto my said kinsman Christopher Norman after the decease of his said Mother Alice Norman my said sister. All that my said house homestall, and appurtenances whatsoever which is situate in Grafton aforesaid to him and his heirs forever; And for want of such heires, my will is that it shall desend unto Francis Norman my kinsman who now liveth with mee, to him and his heires forever And for want of such heires to whom to the right heires of mee the said Christopher Merry. Item I give to all my Godchildren twelve pence a peece Item I make my sister Alice Norman widowe and her said sonne Christopher Norman my Executors of this my last will and Testament In witness whereof I have sett to my hand and seal the said Twelveth day of May in the year of our Lord god as aforesaid (viz) onethousand and sixhundred and fiftie sixe. The mark of Christopher Merry Sealed and delivered in the presence of us William Paine; John Whi[t]ing.
This will was proved at London the Tenth day of July in the yeare of our lord God One thousand and sixehundred & ffiftie and six before the Judges for probate wills and grantinge Administrations lawfully authorized by the oaths of Alice Norman the sister and Christopher Norman the kinsman and joynt Executors of illeg named in the said will to whom Administration of all and singular the goods and chattels and debts of the said deceased was committed. They being first by commission sware truly to administer the same.
