Ordered that a Gate or Turnpike with a Tollhouse be erected as soon as maybe upon the said Turnpike Road and in such part thereof near Twyford Bridge as Sir William Wake Bart. and Hambo Rigby Esquire two of the said Trustees shall appoint and that a Sum not exceeding eleven pounds (carriage of materials excepted) be allowed for that purpose and that the same Tolls shall be taken at the Gate to be erected as are taken at the other Toll Gates erected upon or across the said Turnpike Road.

In pursuance of the Powers & Authorities given to and vested in the trustees appointed for putting in Execution the afore mention Act of Parliament or any seven or more of them We whose hands and seals are here unto subscribed and set being … of the said Trustees Do by this Writing under our hands and seals authorize and appoint Richard Carvel of Alderton in the said County Labourer-to be Collector of the Tolls granted and made payable by the said last mentioned Act to be taken at the Gate or Turnpike lately erected near Twyford Bridge in the Parish of Alderton aforesaid in the said County of Northampton with a Salary or allowance of six shillings per. week Given under our hands and seals at the said Meeting of the said Trustees this thirty first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred and ninety seven.

Ordered that Mr. Christ. Smyth the Clerk do insert an Advert in the Northampton Mercury stating that a Weighing Machine and Toll House and Gate is intended to be erected upon the said Road at or near Twyford Bridge and that all persons who intend offering to provide and erect the said Weighing Machine and Toll House and Gate will be required to deliver in their proposals wherein they are to specify the Dimensions of the House to the said Mr. Smyth three Days at least before the next Meeting.

At a Meeting of the Trustees for putting in Execution two Acts of Parliament the one repairing and widening the Road from the Way Post in the parish of Hardingstone in the County of Northampton to Old Stratford in the said County and the other for continuing the Term and enlarging the powers of the before mentioned Act held twenty second day of March 1798 pursuant to due Notice at the White Hart Inn in Grafton Regis in the said County.

Ordered that a Toll House be immediately erected and built upon or across the said Road at or near such part of Twyford Bridge as Mr. John Roper shall think proper in the stead of the present Toll House & Gate which is to be taken down and that the same be built by John Hedge of Road Mason and John Church of Road Carpenter according to the proposals now delivered in by them and that they shall be allowed for the same the sum of fifty eight pounds eleven shillings and sixpence.

Ordered that as soon as the said Toll House Gates & Weighing Machine or engine be immediately across the Road at or near Twyford Bridge and that Mr. Joshua Ringrose be employed to erect the same according to the proposals he hath delivered in at the Sum of seventy eight pounds.

Ordered that as soon as the said Toll House Toll Gates & Weighing Machine shall be completely erected and finished and the present Toll House and Gate taken down Richard Carvel the Collector of the Tolls at Twyford Bridge Gate do collect and receive the Tolls at the Toll House and Gate to be erected as aforesaid and it is further ordered that all Carts Wagons & Carriages which shall … loaded through such Gate so to be erected shall be weighed together with the loading thereof and that the same Toll be taken for overweight as are aurthorized to be taken by the General Act of Parliament for regular Turnpike Roads.

Ordered that Robert Hollowell be allowed the Sum of half a Guinea for his extra trouble as Surveyor of the Road upto the time his Office ceased.
