Medieval Watermill – Site unknown Gone

The property of Tickford Abbey in Newport Pagnell parish, listed in a deed of Edward II’s reign (1307-27) included “the Mill of Caldecote’s Chapel of Little Linford and the Mill there, and the title to all the Mills in Newport”, and V.C.H. Iv, says “the mill on the estate of Little Linford Manor in 1086 was probably identical with the watermill attached to the Manor in the 14th century, when mention occurs also of a fishpond”. Confirming the existence of a mill value 8/8d at Domesday, Oliver Ratcliffe added that in the survey of 1534 “it was recited that Tickford Convent should enjoy … the title and eels of Linford Mill”.

Various loop streams in the parish offer several possibilities for a mill-site; and history is silent as to the fate of the mill.
