William Greaves 1817
This is the last Will and Testament of me William Greaves of Haversham in the County of Bucks Yeoman which I make and ordain in manner following that is to say first I order and direct that all my just Debts Funeral expences and the charges of proving this my Will be paid and satisfied by my Executors out of my personal estate Next I give devise and bequeath unto my Brother James Greaves of Abthorpe in the County of Northampton and Alexander Greaves of Haversham aforesaid Yeoman all and every my Messuages Cottages Farms Closes Lands Tenements real Estate Hereditaments and Premises whatsoever situate standing lying and being in Haversham aforesaid or elsewhere and also all and singular my household Furniture Stock Crops Goods Chattels Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever To hold the same real and Personal Estates unto them the said James Greaves and Alexander Greaves and the survivor of them and the Heirs Executors and Administrators of such survivor for and during the term of the natural life of my present Wife Mary Upon Trust and confidence Nevertheless and my Will is and I do hereby request that say he my said Trustees the said James Greaves and Alexander Greaves and the survivor of them his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns do and shall permit and suffer my said Wife To hold and occupy the dwelling House and Offices adjoining wherein I now live and also to have the use and enjoyment of the household Goods and Furniture which shall be therein at the time of my decease for her life in case she shall be desirous of living in and occupying the said dwelling House and Premises and upon further Trust that they my said Trustees do and shall manage and cultivate the Farm I now occupy and carry on the business which I am now or shall be engaged in at the time of my decease in the best and most advantageous manner they can and as they he in their discretion shall think proper and two and shall yearly and every year by and out of the produce of the said Farms or out of the Rent and profits of such of my real Estates as they shall not occupy or out of any other Property which may come to their hands by virtue of this my Will pay unto my said Wife Mary one Annuity or clear yearly sum of four hundred pounds during the term of her natural life by two equal half yearly payments in the year that is to say on this sixth day of April and the tenth day of October in each and every year the first payment there are of to begin and be made on such of the said days as shall next happen after my decease and my mind and will is that the said yearly sum of four hundred Pounds shall be paid to my said Wife Mary for the support of herself and the bringing up and education of the three Children of my late Brother Robert Greaves deceased which I request her to undertake and upon further Trust and I do hereby order and direct my said Trustees the said James Greaves and Alexander Greaves and the survivor of them his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns to put placed out and continue at Interest on Real Government Security the surplus Monies to arise and be made out of my said Real and Personal Estate and from the occupation of my said Farms or by any other ways and means during the natural life of my said Wife Mary and also all Interest Money and other produce which shall come from time to time be revised by them or shall come to their hands by virtue hereof in order that the same may accumulate until and up to the death of my said Wife Mary and from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I give and devise unto my Brother Thomas Greaves of Abthorpe aforesaid all that my Homestead with the Barns Stables Buildings Closes Lands Grounds and Premises situate in Haversham aforesaid called and known by the Name Hobcrafts Farm containing together One hundred and ninety five Acres or thereabouts be the same more or less To hold the same with the Appurtenances thereunto belonging and To the use of my said Brother Thomas Greaves his Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject Nevertheless and charged and chargeable with the Annuities hereinafter mentioned that is to say unto my Brother Alfred Greaves one Annuity or yearly sum of forty pounds for and during the term of his natural life and unto my Brother Edmund Greaves the like Annuity or yearly sum of Forty Pounds for and during the term of his natural life to be paid to each of them by two equal half yearly payments in the year (that is to say) on to the six day of April and the fourth day of October in each year the first such payments to be made on either of the said days will shall next happen after my said Brother Thomas Greaves his Heirs or Assigns shall become possessed of the said Farm And in case the said Annuities or yearly rent charges or either of them or any part or thereof shall be behind and unpaid by the space of thirty days next over or after either of the said days on which the same are made payable as aforesaid then I do hereby authorise and empower my said brothers Alfred Greaves and Edmund Greaves or either of them their or either of their Assigns or any Person duly authorized by them to enter unto and upon the said Farm and premises so charged with the payment of the said Annuities or into and upon any part all parts thereof and to distrain for the same or for so much thereof as shall be then due and in arear and the distress and the distresses then and or their found to lead take drive carry away he and in pound and to sell and dispose thereof until the said Annuities or either of them respectively and all arrears there of (if any) together with all costs and charges attending the making such distress or distresses shall be fully paid and satisfied And from and after the decease of my said Wife I give and devise unto my Brother the said James Greaves all that my said Messuage or Dwelling House with the Buildings and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and also all and every the Closes Lands Grounds and Premises called the Home Farm in Haversham aforesaid now occupied by me containing about two hundred and Fifty Acres (be the same more or less) And also all other my Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Hereditaments and Premises situate and being in the Parish of Haversham aforesaid To hold the same with the Appurtenances unto and To the Use of my said Brother James Greaves his Heirs and Assigns for ever And I give and bequeath unto my brother John Greaves the Legacy or sum of Two thousand Pounds to be paid to him by my Executors within in twelve Months after the decease of my said Wife And I do hereby order and direct my said Trustees the said James Greaves and Alexander Greaves and the survivor of them his Executors Administrators and Assigns as soon as conveniently may be after the decease of my said Wife to make sale and dispose of all my said household Furniture Stock Crops Goods Chattels Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and to collect and call in all Debts that shall be then due and owing to my said Estate or to them my said Trustees by virtue of and under the Trusts of my said Will and by and out of the Monies arising therefrom to pay off and discharge all and every incumbrance of any that shall be charged on my said real Estate or on any part thereof and also the said Legacy of One thousand Pounds given to my Brother John Greaves And as two and concerning all the residue of the Monies which shall remain after the purposes aforesaid And all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever I give and bequeath the same unto my said Brother Alexander Greaves To hold to him his Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever to and for his and their own proper use and benefit And I do here nominate and appoint my said Brothers the said James Greaves and Alexander Greaves joint Trustees and Executors of this my Will hereby revoking all former and other Wills by Amy at any time heretofore made And I do hereby order and direct my said Trustees and Executors to deduct and retain to themselves or costs charges and expences which they shall or may sustain or be put unto in and about the execution of this my Will and Testament contained in three sheets of Paper set my hand and Seal (that is to say) to the two first sheets my hand only and to this last sheet my hand and Seal the twenty
