In the name of God Amen I John Mackerness Clerke and Rector of Haversham in the County of Bucks being (I bless God) in perfect sence and understanding (cancelling all former wills) Do make this my last Will and Testament this third day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy and three and in the thirteen year of our Sovereign Lord George the Third First I commit my Soul to the Mercy of Almighty God through the Merits and Mediation of Jesus Christ our Saviour and my Body to be decently buried in the Chancel of Haversham Church next to my late dear wife And for those world Goods I die possessed of bequeath them in form and mannar following First I bequeath to the Poor of Haversham five pounds one half in money the other half in Bread Item I bequeath to the Eldest Daughter of my Brother in Law the Reverend Mr John Rigby Rector of Ickford in the County of Bucks the sum of Five hundred pounds that is to say to his Eldest daughter Sophia Arrowsmith the sum of five hundred pounds Also I give to her the aforesaid Sophia Arrowsmith my Gold Watch and Diamond Ring Item to my Servant John Dove if living with me at my Death Ten pounds and all my wearing apparel Item to my maidservant five pounds Item to Robert Atterbury the Parish Clerk on pound and one shilling for digging my grave Item Mr and Mrs Atkins and Mrs Adyew Pictures in my bed Chamber to be kept by Mrs Ratliffe of Haversham All my other Goods (viz) Silver Plate Books China and Pictures excepting my Father's and Brother Rigby's Pictures which too I leave to my Neice Sophia Arrowsmith What money is made of the Goods when sold to be placed out on Interest for the Uses mentioned in the Will Also all ready money all Legacies and funeral Charges paid to be added for the same purposes All the rest and Residue and and Remainder of my personal Estate of what nature soever I give and dispose of as follows that is to say I give and bequeath the Interest of the same to my Kinswoman Martha Ratcliffe wife of Mr Richard Ratliffe of Haversham In the County of Bucks during her natural life to her own sole and separate Use And at her decease I give and bequeath the same to be equally divided amongst all her Children by Mr Richard Ratliffe living at her Death if only one Child living then that Child the Reason that I don't appoint Trustees for my Kinswoman is that I have firm Confidence in her husband's Justice and that he will punctually perform my Intention for the benefit of his wife and Children In witness of all above mentioned I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written John Mackerness in the presence of George Elliott William Elliott

| Probate 9th October 1775 Administration of the Goods etc of the Reverend John Mackerness Clerk late of Haversham decease was granted to Martha Ratliffe wife of Richard Ratliffe a Residuary Legatee named in the last Will and Testament of the said deceased according to the Tenor of the said Will there being no Executor named in the said Will |
