Orchard Side House in Olney, now the Cowper & Newton Museum, was the home from 1768 to 1786 of William Cowper, renowned 18th century poet. The Museum was opened in 1900 and enables you to walk back in time to discover the Georgian era through the lives of William Cowper and the Rev John Newton – writer of Amazing Grace. the world’s most famous hymn.

Tom Jones, Trustee at the Cowper & Newton Museum in Olney, will share with you their stories and journeys: from Captain of a slave ship to Abolitionist; from the mental asylum to becoming Jane Austen’s favourite poem. Come and find out how their friendship and writing partnership was shaped by the town and people of Olney and how a Heritage Lottery funded project shines a new light on this important Museum collection.
