Organised by: Rainbow Housing Co-operative

Talk by current members of Rainbow Housing Co-operative about the history of the street and its present day use, followed by a walk around the outside of the buildings.

When Wolverton Works was set up in the nineteenth century, LNWR needed to house their workers and were unable to obtain much land in the immediate neighbourhood. They purchased land nearby and in effect created a small new town consisting of cottages for their workers. Each street had 24 houses, of which 4 larger ones were reserved for the foremen and their families.

By the 1970s these had fallen into disrepair and, with the exception of Spencer St, were demolished. Spencer St was then rented out to a group of people looking to set a Housing Co-operative. Forty years later, the co-op continues to flourish!

Location: Meet at No. 9, Spencer Street.

Access: Partial wheelchair access to look around the exterior of the street. Accessible via Church Street, New Bradwell. Parking is quite limited.
