The Old School is a Grade 2 listed building which was previously owned by The Radcliffe Trust. It was purchased by Future Wolverton in April 2017, and has undergone extensive refurbishment work, finally opening to the public in May 2019.

The building comprises a Community Hall and new build café extension and a 3 bedroomed Guest House, run by Future Wolverton in conjunction with Slated Row School.

The Open Day will provide the opportunity for people to view a film which tells the story of the project so far and have a tour of the building and grounds.

The café – run by the students at Slated Row School – will be open for tea, coffee & cake or light lunches on weekdays during the Open Day period.

For the past 7 years, Future Wolverton (which is a not for profit Community Benefit Society) has been working on a project to rescue and refurbish the Old School, a Grade 2 listed building located in the heart of Old Wolverton.

The building, which is located on Old Wolverton Road, was owned by The Radcliffe Trust, and operated as a Church Hall until it was closed to public over 10 years ago.

Future Wolverton secured over £1 million pounds in grant and loan funding to purchase the building and redevelop the building, which now offers community facilities for people living in the West End of Wolverton.

Future Wolverton are working in partnership with Slated Row School, a community special school, (located next door to the building) to deliver the project. Every aspect of the way the building operates is being supported by 6th Form students from the School, many of whom struggle to get any sort of work experience.

The students will be studying for BTEC qualifications in Hospitality and Land Management, at the same time as carrying out practical tasks to look after the Guest House and Community Centre.

The Guest House will provide weekday accommodation for people working in Milton Keynes, and accommodation at the weekends for people visiting family or coming for leisure activities in Milton Keynes.

It has a unique Wolverton décor and has benefited from the skills and talents of a number of Wolverton artists and makers.

We are hoping that Heritage Open Days will coincide with the return of the bell at the Old School, so there maybe a chance to watch the bell being installed, and rung for the first time for 100 years!

No need to book – please turn up anytime during the opening hours for an informal chat with Future Wolverton and students and staff from Slated Row School.

Location: Meet in the Community Hall (follow signage on site).

Access: There is disabled access to the Hall via the rear or café entrance, and accessible toilets. Assistance dogs are welcome, and dogs are welcome in the grounds of the Hall, and on the ground floor or the Guest House.

The whole site is pushchair/pram friendly, and children are welcome to attend – we have lots of wildlife features in the garden including several Hedgehog Houses – which they will enjoy.

The Guest House is not fully accessible, with a step into the House, and internal thresholds.
