Old Stratford Electoral Rolls in Passenham Parish 1890 - 1899

The Electoral system in England was administered by Parish units, developed through the years and transferring power from the Church to elected secular officers and Members of Parliament. Old Stratford was included in the parish of Cosgrove from Watling Street, eastwards, to Cosgrove village. People living on the west side of Watling Street were included in the parish of Passenham.

During these years - In 1886 all male householders were included. By 1889 this list also included some women if they were in business, voting in Division III in the County elections but not yet in Parliament.
It was not until 1919 that women appeared on the electoral rolls in their own right.
Also at this time electoral rolls show "successive" entries where householders, usually tenants had moved within the year from one property to another. Lodgers were not entitled to vote as they were only living in a section of the householder's dwelling.
