Archway & Passage

Repton connected the house with the river Ouse via a path called Digby’s Walk. This winding path leads from the north front of the house, beneath yew and lime trees, under the road by means of a “subterraneous passage” known locally as Digby’s Passage.

The passage has a stone “Gothick” styled west façade. The central tunnel is flanked by a pair of shallow arched recesses.

On emerging from the eastern end of the underground passage the path leads to the river, passing the remains of the utterly dilapidated boathouse.
