The Rectory at Milton Keynes was built by William Wotton, Rector from 1696-1723. It was sold by the Diocese of Oxford in the early 1960s and since then has been in private ownership. He incurred considerable debt as a result of its construction and had to flee to Wales in order to avoid his creditors.

Listed building

The building was listed in 1966 with listing particulars as follows.

House. Late C17 or early C18 altered. Plum coloured brick with gauged brick dressings, hipped old tile roof with moulded and bracketted wood brick cornice, 2 hipped dormers, flanking chimneys with offset heads. 2 storeys and attic, 1st floor band, south front of 5 bays, the 3 centre slightly projecting with pediment over. Sash windows in architrave frames, ground floor glazing altered, with flat gauged brick arches. Central glazed door inarchitrave surround, console brackets and cornice. West front of 3 bays, outer ones slightly projecting with cornice broken cut above. Sash windows to outer bays, brick panels in centre bay, early Cl9 canted bay window to LH. Interior. Drawing room has contemporary panelling. Modern staircase.
