The following is a copy of my ancestor's will (I have the original), but unfortunately there are a few holes which I have indicated with question marks.

 

 


LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF DANIEL CARR (dated 1798)

 

I Daniel Carr of Yardley Gobian in the Parish of Potterspury in the county of Northampton Yeoman do make this my last will and testament in the manner following that is to say First I give and Bequeath to my son William Carr the sum of Two Guineas of good and lawful Money of England Also I give and Bequeath to my daughter ??? Mary/May A Carr the Sum of Two Guineas of good and lawful Money of England together with One Bedstead One Feather Bed and ??? Bedding thereto belonging, Also I give and Bequeath unto my daughters Sarah Backhouse and Ann Smith the sum of ??? Guineas apiece of the like good and lawful Money of England, Also I give and devise unto my son Thomas Carr ??? And Assign forever All those Two Messuages or tenements with All and Singular the appurtenances which I severally purchased of Charles Haddon and Mr Franklin situated and being at Yardley Gobian aforesaid and now in the occupation of my said son Thomas Carr likewise I give and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Carr all the Rest and Residue of my real and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever, and I do and constitute and appoint him my said son Thomas Carr Sole Executor of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all Wills by me heretofore made, In Witness Hereof I the said Daniel Carr the Estator have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this Nineteenth Day of June in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Eight.

Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Daniel Carr the Testator to be his last Will and Testament in the Prescence of us Who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Wintnesses in the Prescence of the said Testator and of each other.

Daniel died 13th May 1818 but his son Thomas is listed in the 1841 census page 17 aged 80 living at Moorend. He died 29th June 1841. We think that Daniel’s grandson Thomas is shown in the 1841 census on page 1 aged 46 with a large family.

 

Daniel also had a grand-daughter Mary Ann Carr said to have been born in Potterspury 5th February 1802. She could possibly be the one mentioned in the census’ in 1851 page 22, 1861 page 23, 1871 page 18, but there seems to be a variation in the ages.

 

I hope this will is of interest. We have never managed to find anything out about Daniel’s second son William
