In the name of God Amen the 26th. day of November in the year of our soverign Lady Elizabeth Queen of England I William Smith otherwise W: Kente of Morende in the parish of Potterspury in the county of Northampton being sick in body but of perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God my saviour Jesus Christ make this my present Testament and last Will in manner and form following that is to say first I bequeath my soul to the Almighty and everlasting God my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried at the discretion of my executors Item I give to the mother church of Peterborough 6d. I give to the maintenance of Potterspery church 6s. 8d. Item I give to the repair of the bells 3s. 4d. Item I give to the poor man’s box for the relief of the poor 3s. 4d. Item I give towards the repair of Whittlebery church 3s. 4d. Item I give to everyone of my godchildren 12d. a piece Item I give to every one of my men servants and maid servants 12d a piece Item I give and bequeath to my two sons William and Thomas £20 a piece Item I give to my three daughters Susans, Ellen and Margrett £20 a piece at the day of their marriage Item I give to Anne my daughter £13 6s. 8d. Item I bequeath to my cousin Thomas Adington and to my daughter Jeyes my lease of 3 tenements in Potterspury called Gardenors house and Conqueste house and Ingrammes house in as large and ample manner as I held the same together during the years to come and the lease to take it again to their own use Item I give to my two daughters Elizabeth Holes and Jane eryvenar [Scrivener] to every one of their children one ewe and lamb to be delivered at shene [shear?] time next after my decease Item I give to my cousin John Prestwike 10s. Item I give to my cousin Anthony Smyth 10s. Item I give to my cousin William Smith 10s. Item I give to my brother Church 5s. Item I give to my brother Raffell Waite a crossbow and bender Item I give to my cousin John Vanse of Riton my gown Item I give and bequeath my lands and woods in the parish of Meredine in the county of Warwick to Mary my wife to let set cut down or sell any wood or trees towards the paying of my legacies given by me aforenamed during her life And after her decease then she to leave the same land and woods to my son William Smith and his heirs Item I give and bequeath to Mary my wife all my goods within the house and without moveable and unmoveable whatsoever that is mine and unbequeathed with the years to come in my lease of Morend farm to the use of her own right to bring up my children and to prepare them as she shall think best Item I give the lease of Morend to William my son and he to take the same again with his stock if he be living if not that Thomas my son to have my lease and to be his brothers heirs in all manner of things Item I do ordain and make Mary my wife my executrix to this my last Will and Testament and I do make Mr. Thomas Staffoton and Mr. George Fearne my overseers to this my last Will and for their pains I give to every of them 6s. 8d. a piece to see my legacies performed and kept and paid as my trust is that the will so do this present Will is written with my own hand whereunto I have set my hand and seal These are witnesses Nicholas Church and William Bowhton with others
