In the name of God Amen in the year of our Lord God 1560 the 18 day of April witness that I Edward Smythe of Morende in the parish of Potterspurie called Est purie in the county of Northampton yeoman being sick in body and in perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God in whom is all my trust and to our blessed Lady Saint Marie and all the Holy company in heaven and my body to be buried in the church of Potterspurie aforesaid I bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough 4d. I bequeath to the church of Potterspurie towards the repairs thereof 6s. 8d. I bequeath to everyone of my godchildren 4d. a piece I bequeath to the poor men’s box 20d. Item bequeath to Anthonye my eldest son my lands and copyhold within the town and fields of Whittleburie and Silson in the county of Northampton Item bequeath to William my son my house in Yardley Gobben in the parish of Potterspurye in the county aforesaid Item bequeath all my goods moveable and unmoveable to my 2 sons Anthonye and William equally to be divided between them and if God do his will by either of my sons the other to be his heir if he die before he be married Item bequeath to Anthonye my son my title of Morende farm and to William my son to have my title of Yardley mill in the said parish of Pury And will that my goods shall remain upon the ground during my lease and my children to be kept upon the said ground during the years And I will that my brother William Smythe shall have the guardian of my 2 sons with the farm and mill during the years and till the be twenty years old a piece Item will that my brother William shall take the farm and mill again to the use of my 2 children if he can or that can lie in him to do the uttermost of his power as my special trust is in him with such goods as is in his hands and that my brother William his heirs executors or assigns shall pay and deliver all such sums of money and goods as is in their keeping to my 2 sons the year before their marriage And I will that my brother shall receive the rents of my house at Whitteburye and my rent in Yardley towards the bring up of my 2 children till they come to the age aforesaid Item I bequeath to every one of my servants 12d. a piece And I do make my 2 sons Anthonye and William my executors to this my last Will and Testament And I will that my brother Wm Smythe and Mr. Thomas Furtho of Potterpury to pay all my debts and legacies and I will that my brother Wm. Smythe have the keeping of my children and their goods as is aforesaid and for this pains I give him the bailie wick of Morende And I do make my very friend Mr. Thomas Furthoo of Purie my overseer to this my last Will and Testament and for his pains I give him a sorell ambling colt These being witness Sir Thomas Folwell vicar John Bailie, Nicholas Church and Ric Addington with other moo
