Visit of 1st Stony Stratford ‘Cherokees’

6.15 to 7.45pm Adjustment to usual Pack Time

Our visitors arrived at 6.15pm and the Cub Scouts were organised into 4 large sixes. This organisation was to try and ensure the boys would get to know each other by the end of the Pack night and the competitive and cooperating games would further this aim.

After Grand Howl and Flag Break all the Cub Scouts were inspected by the ’Cherokee’ Akela and Kaa. A game called ‘Odd and Evens’ was played and because it was a mixing game, the ice was broke.

Akela then explained the importance of safety in the next game which was soon evident in the action packed ‘Broom Handle Relay’ which is probably not seen outside the Hanslope Pack. ‘Puff Relay’ then followed and it was seen by the Leaders that team spirit was emerging as all the Cub Scouts summoned every last breath to try and win the relay for their six.

Cherokees’ Akela then organised a ‘Head and Tail Relay’ which soon showed the Six with best gambling instinct. A game of ‘Murder’ followed which the Stony Stratford Cub Scouts seemed unable to detect the murderer even when a handful of victims remained. ‘Gamekeeper and Poacher’ caused many laughs as Akela’s Pheasant turned out to be a cardboard ring, but then what is Cub Scouting without imagination. A relay game called ‘Stepping Stones’ was next which further improved the cooperation element which had been increasing throughout the programme.

The enlarged Pack was then spilt into 2 teams to play a mad game called ‘Thread the Needle’ some boys will have to go on a diet as some found trouble in getting through the hoops. By this time Kaa helped by Andrew and Christopher Mitchell, who required cooking for their Silver Arrow, had prepared delicious Hot Dogs which were duly consumed with relish by the boys and yes the Leaders as well.

To end the evening we all joined together to sing songs and perform stunts around the indoor Camp Fire. Hanslope provided 2 songs and one excellent Stunt, nearly spoilt by Mathew trying to act, and Cherokees also giving us 2 songs and a Stunt.

Grand Howl and Flag lowering then concluded a fun packed evening which had successfully achieved the Leaders aims and a return visit to a Cherokee’s Pack Night later in the year was offered.
