Ramble in Woburn Park

We met at 9.30am. in the Headquarters and after Akela had checked each Cub Scout was wearing suitable clothing for the walk we set off in four vehicles.

Having parked near the Woburn Church we set off for a 4 mile walk on a sunny autumn morning. We followed the Greensand Ridge Walk which passed the beautiful Woburn Abbey House. Mr. Lock identified the different types of Deer that were seen on the ramble and explained some of their habits to the group.

We turned off the Greensand Ridge Walk to follow a footpath so that our walk became a circular ramble through the Park. A disused pheasant rearing pen was inspected along the way and Mr. Lock showed us the way the birds fed from the feeding equipment.

Nearing the end of our walk we organised a game of Rounders where the Adults joined each Six to try and improve the standard of play. The highlight of the Game was definitely Philip Woolley’s rounder, not only was it the first time he had hit the ball since belonging to the Pack but everyone could see he meant business as this was his last game with the Pack before going up to the Troop later in the week.

The game completed we made our way back to the Car Park for our return journey to Hanslope. We all agreed that it had been an excellent walk in the beautiful park on a sunny if windy autumn morning. We arrived back at the Headquarters to awaiting parents at 1.30pm.
