The Dorothy Cook Competition
Held at Hanslope Scout and Guide Headquarters
The Competition had been rearranged from earlier in the year and was the first time it had been held at Hanslope.
We arranged the hall for 9 Test Stations and were hosts to 7 Packs. 1st Olney, 4th Newport Pagnell Invincibles, and Beatties, 1st. Wolverton Timbers, Gifford Park, Great Linford and Two Mile Ash & Great Holm Vikings with of course our own team.
The bases to be visited by each team of 6 in turn were Royalty, Tracking, Country Code, Knotting, Badges, Packing Kit, First Aid and Road Safety. Akela and Kaa ran a base on Observation but our team did not have to visit us under the rules of the Competition.
The ADC Paul Swannell also inspected each team in the interval to make up a total of 9 tests for each team.
Our team was determined to do their best in this Competition that tested the Cub Scouts in their knowledge of scouting skills, as our Pack had gained 2nd place 4 times in the previous 5 entries.
At the interval, where we consumed the excellent refreshments served by Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Ayles, we found that our team seemed to be doing well in the competition and were eager to put in a final effort on the remaining bases to be visited.
Our team returned to await the result of their mornings work. Paul Swannell ADC Cub Scouts then announced that 4th Newport Pagnell Beatty had gained 69 points for 4th place, 3rd place Great Linford with 74 points and Two Mile Ash & Great Holm Vikings 2nd with 74.5 points. First place with 80.5 points were 1st Hanslope.
The team proudly received the magnificent shield in reward for a grand effort in the keenly contested competition.
