Ramble around Calverton

We met at 9.0am. in the Headquarters on a cold, windy winter’s morning. All the Cub Scouts were checked for warm clothing and suitable footwear before we set off for a circular walk around Calverton, Milton Keynes.

Having parked the vehicles in the Car Park in Calverton Road by the river we all changed into our walking footwear. The walk was to cover 4 miles mainly across open fields so we maintained a good walking speed in the cold weather. Interesting points were re-laid to the Pack from a Leaflet that Akela was using to follow the waymarked route. Splendid views were uncovered on the walk and Calverton, Stony Stratford and Milton Keynes were in sight on most of the route.

The party came to a fast running brook, swollen by the recent heavy rainfalls during the last few weeks. Not to waste this natural source of pleasure each Cub Scout was encouraged to make a boat from material in the vicinity and enter a competition to see which boat travelled the furthest distance along the brook. After much amusement and shouting we continued our walk into Calverton village and returned to the Car Park.

A fast and furious game of Rounders was then played and because of the introduction of one adult in each team, many rounders were scored, which was most unusual. Despite some big hitting we managed to keep the ball away from the River Ouse.

We returned to the Headquarters at 12.30 all refreshed from an interesting ramble in vigorating weather.
