St. George’s Day Parade

Wolverton

Rehearsals for Flag Bearers and escorts had taken place in St. George’s Church Wolverton on Saturday April 21st at 5.30pm. to which both Pack and Troop parties had attended with Akela and Skip.

The Cub Scouts, Scouts, Leaders and Parents met at the Headquarters at 1.30pm. to organise transport to Wolverton College of Further Education where the Parade was to be lined up. The Group assembled at the allocated station outside the College and last minute adjustments were made to uniforms before taking our position in the column. The parade was led by the Boys Brigade Band and we marched along Stratford Road into Church Street and thence into the Church.

When the flags of the participating units had been received by the vicar we all enjoyed a very rewarding St. George’s Day service in a packed church. When the flags had been retrieved from the vicar we all filed out from the Church to re-assemble in the Car Park off Church Street.

The parade marched back to the College where the participants were dismissed to partake in a well earned drink before our Group returned to the Headquarters at 4.30pm.

The Group Leaders were pleased with the turnout, both in appearance and numbers and after the previous years fiasco we all had enjoyed a stirring St. George’s Day Parade and Service at Wolverton.
