OPERATION OUTREACH DISTRICT EVENT

at the Quarries Camp Site

We assembled at 1.0pm. at the Headquarters to collect and prepare our equipment in readiness for our departure to the Quarries Camp Site.

Arriving at the Quarries our Cub Scouts helped the Leaders carry the equipment to the Camp Site the 1st Hanslope Pack were to hold their base.

We all set to, to organise the base on Mini Pioneering and our Cub Scouts also learnt how to erect a Dining Shelter which was important to the Leaders well being if the weather became uncomfortable.

Our Cub Scouts the reported to Paul Swannell the ADC to be organised into 5 mixed groups so that they could visit the 5 Bases organised for the afternoon. Once again the numbers from the District were disappointing as only 27 Cub Scouts over 9½ years attended. The Pack Leaders present voiced their surprise at such a low attendance for a very rewarding event but they were all determined to give those lucky Cub Scouts present an event to remember.

Thus the 5 Teams in turn visited the 5 Bases on Mini Pioneering, Estimation, Tent Pitching, Problem Solving and Plaster Casts where they experienced activities that they will come across when they move up to their respective Troops.

During the afternoon Cub Scouts and Leaders retired to the Main Building to refresh themselves on soup and bread, but owing to the soup being thick some Leaders missed out.

The afternoon activities then came to a close and it was without doubt a resounding success both for the boys and Leaders who had taken the trouble to attend a great District Event on a sunny October day.

Our lads helped the Leaders pack up the bases and we returned to the Headquarters to store away the equipment before going home for 6.0pm.
