Visit to 1st Stony Stratford ‘Cherokees’

After Sub collection and inspection we prepared ourselves for the journey in the snow to Stony Stratford. Arriving at 6.30pm. we were greeted by the Cherokee’s Leader and 12 Cub Scouts and we organised ourselves for Flag Break.

Cherokee’s Akela sorted the 32 Cub Scouts into 4 equal groups so the first game could be played. In relay formation the Cub Scouts enjoyed ‘Heads or Tails’ and it could be seen that right from the start the new Sixes had become very competitive. The Cub Scouts were then split into 2 teams to play ‘Thread the Needle’ many good battles were seen and Michael even inured himself during one skirmish.

We then settled down to a quieter game of ‘Question and Answers’ which produced many laughs in what evidently seemed a complicated game to many of the Cub Scouts. Having illustrated their enthusiasm for physical struggles a ‘Circle Tug of War’ was organised between the 4 Sixes with Baloo and Bagheera having to adjust the circle of rope a number of times to suit the size of Stony’s Scout Hall.

Whilst awaiting the Stony Stratford Scout’s hot dogs we played a relay game of ‘Rocket Relay’ which gave the Cub Scouts an appetite for the excellent refreshments.

After Flag Down in which the Hanslope Leaders were surprised that Grand Howl did not seem to be practised by the Cherokees we gave our thanks to the hosts in which we all thought and hoped new friendships had been made during the joint Pack Meeting and it was promised that 1st Hanslope would return the invitation later in the year.

We travelled back to Hanslope through the snow to awaiting parents at 8.0pm. having had a very enjoyable scouting experience.
