1st HANSLOPE

Sunday April 28th1991

St. George’s Day Parade Newport Pagnell

We did not attend the rehearsal for the Flag Bearers and Escorts owing to Leaders personal commitments on the Saturday, but we were confident that our lads would observe their counterparts from other Groups and soon pick up the procedure.

The Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venture Scouts, Leaders and Parents met at the Headquarters at 1.30pm. to organise ourselves for the journey to Newport Pagnell.

This was the first year that 1st Hanslope Scout Group would have a Venture Scout Unit in the Parade as the ‘DANELAW’ Venture Scout Unit of 1st Hanslope Scout Group had been formed and officially started on Friday April 12th 1991.

We arrived at Newport Pagnell Health Centre and assembled the Pack, Troop and Unit into the column. The parade was led by the Boys Brigade Band and we proceeded to march along the High Street to Saint Peter & Paul Church.

When the flags of the participating Groups had been received we all joined in the St. George’s Day service. The flags having been returned to the Units we all reassembled outside the Church for the march back to the Health Centre.

With the Band playing with gusto and the wonderful sunny spring weather the Parade was a stirring sight to the many people lined up along the High Street.

When the Parade was dismissed we all returned home delighted in the knowledge that 1st Hanslope had played their part both in numbers and smartness in bringing the public’s attention at Newport Pagnell that Scouting in Milton Keynes North was very much alive.
