1st HANSLOPE

Sunday July 21st 1991

Milton Keynes North District Cub Scouts Sports

at Gifford Park School at 2.0pm.

We all assembled at 1.0pm for the final pep talk, after preparing the Pack for the Sports by organising the Athletics Activity Badge and training in the weeks prior to the Event.

After the Pack understood their responsibilities in ensuring we continued our continuous winning run, we departed for Gifford Park in a confident mood.

After setting up our base in the centre of the sports field we saw that Bagheera and Mr. Redman were helping the ADC to run the event and we were to do battle against 9 other Packs from the District.

Our team members applied themselves with the now traditional application to try and achieve a place in the finals of the events by coming in the first two places in their heats as they knew that they could only gain points for the Pack in the Finals.

Despite the challenge of Gifford Park in the early stages and the remaining Packs trying to ensure 1st Hanslope did not continue their running win sequence the lads more than excelled themselves and when they failed to reach a final gave their all in the heats, Although some members of the Group became a little worried of our points scoring, the fact that a few comments were being made from the Packs gave the impression that they were becoming worried at our quiet progress.

Our team members were ably backed by our ‘backeroom’ team of Ben, Paul and James refreshing and watering our competitors after their superhuman efforts.

The District Commissioner’s Relay Cup was retained for the second year running by an outstanding team of four who were now never threatened in the Heats and Final and with our team of 8 in the Tug of War pulling all the teams before them with ease we ended the Sports on a high note.

Gathering around to hear the results of an epic effort from our Cub scouts in the District Event we heard Paul Swannell give out the placings.

Sharing 8th Place – Neath Hill & ‘Cherokees Stony Stratford, 7th Wolverton ‘Timbers’, 6th 3rd Newport Pagnell, 5th Stoke Goldington, equal 4th Wolverton ‘Priairies & Greenleys, 3rd Two Mile Ash ‘Vikings’, 2nd Gifford Park 51 points and FIRST 1st Hanslope with 66 points.

After Ben received the shield from the DC and Gareth the DC Relay Cup we returned home to Hanslope really on a high after retaining the Shield for the 11th year in succession thanks to an outstanding effort from the Pack team.
