Visit to Milton Keynes of the Chief Scout

The Chief scout of United Kingdom Major General Michael Walsh visited Milton Keynes to meet the Scouters from the North of the County.

During his office of Chief Scout numerous visits are made around the United Kingdom so that he can meet face to face with some of the thousands of Scouters engaged in Scouting. His visit to Milton Keynes was his first and this occasion took place in the Milton Keynes Development Offices at Saxon Gate Central Milton Keynes.

Akela, Baloo, Bagheera and Kaa represented the 1st Hanslope Scout Group from the Milton Keynes North District.

We found ourselves amongst Beaver Scout, Cub Scout, Scout and Venture Scout Leaders from the District within North Buckinghamshire together with District and County Scouters. The Chief scout entered the arena and first presented Scouts and Venture Scouts with their Chief Scout awards before making a speech. He informed the gathering of Headquarters news and thanked the Scouters on their wonderful work for the largest youth organisation in the U.K.

After coffee each District gathered into their own area so that the District Commissioners could introduce him to their Scouters.

After Mr. Don Scott D.C. introduced us to the Chief Scout Bagheera persuaded him to pose for a photograph for the Group’s records. After Baloo had sold him investments, Kaa had selected him for the Sunday XI, Bagheera had entered him for a Mini Marathon and Akela had got up from kissing his shoes he moved on to meet other Scouters in the District.

We all enjoyed the occasion because Major General Michael Walsh will retire from his position in April 1988 and it is very unlikely such a visit from a Chief Scout to Milton Keynes will happen for a very long time.

Attended Akela, Baloo, Bagheera and Kaa
