Visit to the Post Office Sorting Department

Mount Farm Milton Keynes

After subs collection and Grand Howl we made our way to the Sorting Office by means of parent’s cars. Arriving at our destination we split into two groups each being escorted by a Post Office employee.

Each group was shown around the building and the procedure in receiving and despatching mail either by hand or use of highly mechanised machines. The work load seemed to be undertaken with efficiency and speed so that the mail collected during the day in the Milton Keynes district could quickly be put on vans, trains and aircraft to arrive at their correct destination as soon as possible.

It was also explained that the incoming mail would arrive during the night so that it could be sorted into areas of Milton Keynes. The delivery Postman would sort his mail into the correct order for each particular street or road on his route before setting out in the morning to deliver the mail.

The Pack were then given some items to take home as a reminder of a very interesting and informative visit to the Sorting Department. We thanked Mr. Roger Davis and Bill for their excellent tour and explanations before returning to the Headquarters.

After Grand Howl and distribution of gifts we shared the excellent cake won on the Sponsored Walk.
