Tour of St Lawrence Church

12. Chancel

The chancel has a six-bayed roof of seven carved black oak trusses dating from 1640, incorporating Renaissance-style infill panels, strapwork decoration and a large pendant from beneath the centre of each truss.
Two of the trusses re-use medieval tranceried panels intended for a roof of slightly shallower pitch - probably that replaced by the present roof.

A decorative feature on the floor are the encaustic tiles in the style of A. W. N. Pugin, possibly manufactured at the Minton factory which were laid in the church in 1872.
