"My name is Alan Kay, I am 73 years old and the year is 2006. I came to Bletchley as an evacuee on September 2nd 1939, at the outbreak of War with Germany, with the Ecclesbourne Road Junior School from Islington, London." - MORE


Recollections from Derek Denchfield who lived in Stoke Hammond, September 1937

"As one of many eleven year-olds from surrounding village schools I was about to enter a new phase in my education, attending the new senior mixed school in Bletchley Road, the headmaster was Mr E. C. Cook. -" MORE


My first school, memories of Peter Copperwheat

"Starting school for the first time is something of a culture shock, young, innocent and not particularly streetwise. However, September 1945 was my first introduction to the education system and began at Old Bletchley CofE School in Church Green Road. My age at the time was not quite 5 years old." - MORE


Memories of Doris Lown (nee Harrison)

Doris came to Bletchley during the second world war with her family. She attended school in Wolverton but later became Secretary to Mr E. C. Cook the infamous headteacher of Bletchley Road School - MORE


Mysterious world of the Blacksmith

Bletchley-born Celia Duncan (nee Cook) grew up in the town in the 1920s. Her father, Mr E.C. Cook was the Headmaster of Bletchley Road School from before the Second World War until his retirement in 1953. Don Sewell

Don Sewell was born in Fenny Stratford and lived in Church Street where his father owned a cycle shop. His schooling began in a small private school run by Mrs Fry, a retired schoolmistress, in a house near the top of Church Street from which he subsequently moved to Bletchley Secondary School in Bletchley Road (now Queensway). After leaving school at 14 Don got a job at Roots brush factory where he remained until joining the Royal Air Force during the war. When his father became too ill to continue to run the shop, Don took over the business which he expanded to include another cycle and fishing tackle shop that he opened in the parade of shops next to the Bletchley Arms in Queensway.

Tracy lived in Water Eaton and attended Manor Road School from 1974 - 1976 and Knowles Middle School from 1976 - 1980 here are some memories of her time at both schools.- MORE


Infant School memories Gladys Scott (formerly Mrs Powell)

"When I first started the Bletchley Road infants school it was based in the buildings that now front Queensway nearest to St Martin's Hall and is known as the Knowles Infant School. Our classes were mixed both boys and girls and I remember we sat in a square." - MORE


Eileen Corden (nee Haddon) memories

"I started school in September 1928, at the time there was the infants school, the girls school and the boys school. Boys and Girls never mixed for lessons or sports. The Headmistress of the Infants, was Miss Workman." - MORE
