About Us

THE STOKE GOLDINGTON ASSOCIATION

When the last post-war New Town was planned in the late 1960s, located  in the mainly agricultural area of North Bucks, it was quickly realised that life in the nearby villages would be significantly altered.

The Stoke Goldington Association (SGA) was set up in 1987 to record the changes the new Milton Keynes City would inevitably bring as it developed, as well as documenting the history and development of the area from ancient times.

The SGA now has an impressive ARCHIVE of local history information on places, people and events , housed in the communal Reading Rooms in the High Street and available to members of the local community for interest and research.

We are NOT a Lobbying or Protest organization, although the information contained in our archive has been used, on occasion, to settle local issues.

Until 2020 we had around 45 members paying an annual subscription which was used to pay rent, speakers and for supplies.

After the pandemic, and the loss of many older residents able to attend in the evenings,  this model is no longer possible so we now have a single charge for everyone for Events and for the occasional Speaker.

We often hold Open Days  on Saturday mornings to encourage residents past and present  to explore the contents of the folders for research and general interest.

There have been many new families move into the village recently and they find this a useful introduction to the history of their new homes and the surrounding area.

UPDATED WEBSITE 2024

The original SGA website was set up by Derek George, one of the founders and mainstay of the Association, but hasn’t been updated since his sad death in 2012.

Recently we have decided  to try to refresh and update the old website.

We hope you will find it informative and interesting.
