Peter Boyce – Traditional and Modern Canal Stories
Peter Boyce, Storyteller, will join us in February 2026 and present stories, songs and poems from the folklore of our 260 year old canal system.
This is not a history talk, but a selection of material related to the canals, touching on the lives of the people who built them, navigated them, and still explore them, from 1762 to 2026. Time is limited in just one evening, there is much, much more to discover, and this selection merely dips into the subject but may whet your appetite.
Peter will tounch on the building of the canals, tunnels and their folklore, the boat people, winter ice and more recent canal stories of ghosts, films and boating.
