In the name of God Amen the year of our Lord God a thousand five hundred and forty the 25th day of August and in the year of our soverign Lord the King King Henry the 8th. the 37 year of his reign [1545] King of England France and Ireland and defender of the faith and in earth supreme head of the church of England and Ireland I Thomas Abbaye dwelling in the parish of Estperye other wise called Pottersperry within the county of Northampton being sick in body and whole of mind make my Will and Testament after this manner and form as hereafter does follow first I give and bequeath my soul unto Almighty God and to his blessed mother our Lady saint Mary and to all the holy company in heaven And my body to be buried within the churchyard of Saint Nicholas of Estperye I bequeath unto the mother church of Peterborough 2d. item I bequeath unto the mother high altar 2d. for forgotten tithes Item I give unto every altar within the said church 2d. a piece Item I bequeath unto the bells 12d. And also unto the torches 6d. And also unto the rood light 2d. And I bequeath and give unto Raufs Abbaye my son my house lying and sitting in Yerdlay Gobben and he to give yearly unto the sepulcher’s light 2d. and 2d. in alms unto the poor peoples upon Good Friday forever more to endure and further more the said house shall be yearly charged for my obit and the burial with 8d. the space of 10 years Item I give unto my three daughters each of them a cow and a coffer and a brass pot and a pan And every of them to have a quarter of barley a piece and half a quarter of wheat And Wyilliam Abbaye my son and my three daughters they to have my household stuff amongst them as my overseers think best and Wylliam Abbaye my son to have my house that is at Anslaype [Hanslope] and the said house shall be charged to keep there yearly an obit for my father and mother and for the soul of Rychard Abbay my uncle Item I give unto Robert Abbaye my son that is at London 6s 8d. and also unto Rychard Foster my son in law’s child a calf the residue of my goods not bequeathed I give and bequeath then unto Wylliam Abbey my son and he to be my lawful executor of this my last Will and Testament and these I make my supervisors of this my last Will and Testament Sir John Suckelyng my ghostly father and Wylliam a Kent and these to see my Will performed and kept they to have for their labours a sheep a piece these being witness Thomas Gonne and Thomas Tryton, John Gonne with other moo
