In God’s Name Amen the first day of February in Ano Dm 1612 And in the year of the Reign of our soverign Lord James by the grace of God of England France and Ireland king defender of the faith etc the tenth and of Scotland the six [missing] fortieth I Mary Smythe als. Kente of Morend in the parish of East Purye als. Potterspury in the county of Northt widow revoke all other Wills Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following; First I bequeath m[y body] into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting assuredly by the merits and passion of his dear son Christ Jesus to b[illeg] partaker of his everlasting kingdom and my body to be buried in the Church of Potterspury aforesaid, Item I give to the mother church of Peterborough 4d Item I give towards the repair of the church and bells of Potterspury 10s Item I give to the poor of Potterspury 20s and to the poor [of]Yardley 20s Item I give and bequeath to my cousin Anthony Smythe als Kente the sum of ten pounds of lawfull English money I give and bequeath to Anne Smyth als Kente my daughter one feather bed one bolster one covering one pair of blankets one pillows with the linen therein now standing in the parlour And whereas her late father gave to her by his last Will and Testament the [illeg] 6s 8d of lawful English money; now I will and bequeath unto the said Anne Smythe als Kente the sum of forty marks of lawful English money over and above her father’s legacy which legacy I will shall remain in the hands of my executor towards maintenance of the said Anne for so long time as the said Anne shall think herself well used by my said executor and my said executor his heirs and assigns to find allow and provide to and for the said Anne Smythe als Kente sufficient meat drink lodging and ap[missing] for and during her continuance with him his heirs and assigns And if at any time the said Anne Kente als Smythe shall or do mislike her usage and habitation with my said executor his heirs or assigns That then my will and meaning is that my said executor his heirs ex[missing] or assigns shall content and pay or cause to be paid unto the said Anne Smythe als Kente the sum of forty pounds of lawfull English money hereby given and bequeathed to her within three months next after her depart from my said executor his heirs or assigns and I give unto the said Anne my daughter all that one cottage with the appurtenances lying in Yardley in the said county of North now in the tenure of one William Gardner and during the term of her natural life And from and after the death and decease of the said Anne Smythe als Kente That then my will and meaning is the said cottage house with the appurtenances shall be and remain to the only proper use of William Smythe als Kente my grandchild and his heirs and assigns of ever Item I give unto Ellinor Gorstelowe [illeg] now wife of Richard Gorstelowe and to her heirs and assigns for ever all that one cottage with the appurtenances lying in Potterspury aforesaid in the said county of North now in the tenure of one William Nellson his assign or assigns provided always that if she the [said] Ellinor her heirs or assigns or any of them be minded hereafter to sell the said cottage with the appurtenances, That then my will is that [missing] Smythe als Kente my son paying £20 unto her the said Ellinor her heirs or assigns shall have the said cottage with the appurtenances before a[missing] one whatsoever Item I give unto Susanee Smythe als Kente my grandchild the sum of £4 to be paid unto her by my said executor his executor or assigns at her full age of age 20 years or the day of her marriage which first shall happen Item I give and bequeath unto Marye Gorstelowe daughter of the said Ellinor my grandchild the sum of £4 in gold; Item I give unto every of my grandchildren 12d a piece Item I give every of my servants 7d a piece, Item I give unto the said Ellinor Gorstelowe, my trunk and all that therein is, Item I give unto Margerett Smythe als. Kente my grandchild one gilt salt and one little silver bowl Item I give unto the said Margerett the greatest brass pot and brass pan; Item I give and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Smyth als Kente and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten my lease of Morend The rest of my goods and chattels as well movable as unmoveable my debts paid and my funeral expenses discharged I do give and bequeath unto my said son Thomas Smythe als Kente whom I do make and ordain sole and whole executor of this my last Will and Testament to see the same duly performed as my trust is in him, and I do make and ordain overseers of this my last Will and Testament my welbeloved friends Mr Cuthbert Ogle, Mr John Whaley and Mr Henrye Pedder and I give to each of them for a remembrance 6s 8d In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written in the presence of us
