‘The week has brought news of several soldiers from Hanslope who have been wounded in the heavy fighting in France. Lance Corporal S[idney] Abbott of the Bucks Territorials, is reported to be in a casualty clearing station in France, suffering from dangerous shell wounds in the neck and shoulder. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Abbott, of Castlethorpe Road, and some months ago during the battle of the Somme sustained a compound fracture of the right arm.’

‘Wounded … son of Mr & Mrs A Abbott, of Castlethorpe Road, Hanslope, who have received an official telegram stating that their son is reported dangerously ill in a Casualty Clearing Station, France, on September 2nd, suffering from shell wounds in neck and shoulder. This is the second time Abbott, who is 21, has been wounded, he having had a compound fracture of the right arm in the Somme push.’
