1911 census: Father – farm labourer; mother – no occupation. Children – Frederick aged 15 – farm labourer; Emily aged 12 – school; Edith aged 10 – school; Mary aged 8;  Hilda aged 5.

Kate Welch died January 4 1923 aged 28 in the Mental Hospital, Stowe.

Army career: Frederick was in Vancouver, Canada by 1915 where he enlisted on December 13 and served in 72nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry as Private 130172.

Attestation record details: height 5ft 10ins; girth when expanded 44 ins and range 24 ins; brown complexion, hair and eyes; tattoo on back right forearm of clasped hands and heart.

Killed in action March 1 1917. Buried at Villers Station Cemetery, Villers au Bois, Pas de Calais, France. Grave ref. VI.D.10
