The Deanshanger Conservation Area & Village Design Statement

A conservation area is “an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance”. An area designated by the local authority

The properties marked  within the Red boundary line of the conservation area are all included in the Schedule 4 (2) directive. This directive means the houses are considered to be of significant historic interest and that all alterations, however minor must have planning consent. Important views are also defined that extend beyond the boundary.

Applications for planning consent under these rules are free to the occupier or owner of the property in order to assist the local authority in enhancing the historic character of the area. As a consequence the value of property in the conservation area might increase in value as sympathetic renovations are undertaken and the property becomes more sought after.

Deanshanger Village Heritage Society’s Planning Team is invited to comment on all planning applications that relate to the Conservation Area. The Team has built a well-deserved respected reputation with The Conservation Dept at West Northamptonshire Council acknowledging the work and input the Team makes.
