The Parish – Early History

The name Deanshanger makes reference to topographical features – hangra , old English for sloping wood with a personal name Dynne. Maps and records sometimes show an alternative spelling of Denshanger. The village lies in the fertile Ouse Valley that has been settled since the Iron Age.
