Deanshanger is a village and civil parish located in the south of Northamptonshire, just northwest of Milton Keynes.
The village has a rich history, dating back to when it was known as Daneshanger, which means a clearing in the woods where the Danes lived.
Historically, Deanshanger was part of the old Parish of Passenham and developed significantly during the Victorian era due to its industrial base. The construction of the Buckingham Arm extension to the Grand Union Canal in 1801 and its proximity to Whittlebury Forest contributed to this growth
Few places can boast two internationally renowned businesses operating from such a small community, E & H Roberts Ltd Iron Works up to 1935 and later an Oxide Works. It was with the closure of the then Elementis oxide works in 1999 that the Deanshanger Village Heritage Society (DVHS) was founded by residents to preserve and celebrate the history of the village, its people and surrounds.
“We’re not just about the past but take pride in our present and look toward the future, doing what we can to improve and benefit the local community”.
