Operation Spring Clean

Operation Spring Clean

As part of its aims and objectives DVHS regularly undertakes work to help maintain the village environment.

Brook Clearing

We invite members and friends to come along once, sometimes twice, a year to clear The Brook, its banks and surrounding area along High Street near the Co-Op Store. Wading into the water and thinning out weeds keeps the water flowing and helps prevent flooding at the lower end of the village. Whilst clearing the banks and Brook of rubbish and litter can only be of benefit to the area. It's a fun day of enthusiasm and laughter usually held in April on a Saturday morning for a few hours, with a break for refreshments. If you would like to join us please look at our What's On page and mark the date in your diary.

Litter Picking

Along with members, friends, residents and other groups in the village including  Kingsbrook School and Deanshanger Primary School we organise regular litter picking events, where we tackle the problem around areas of the village. Look at the What's On page for future event days and come and join us.

The Society's efforts were called  Operation Spring Clean in 2001 and we entered the campaign into a countywide competition organised by The Volunteer Trust. Operation Spring Clean won first prize in the Northamptonshire competition winning £250 which was later put to good use in planting a Willow tree on Willow Green in the village, near Patrick’s Lane.
