August 27. Anno Dni. 1640

In the name of God Amen I John Newman of Bradwell in the County of Buckes yeoman being diseasd in body but of perfect and good memory the lord be praised doe make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and forme following that is to say First I bequeath my Soule into the handes of Almighty God whoe gave it, in Confidence through Christ his merittes to be made partaker of everlastinge life And my body to the earth whence it came to be Decently buried accordinge to the Direction of my Executors here after mentioned Item I give unto ye Church of Bradwell five shillinges Item I give unto the poore of Bradwell five shillinges Item I give unto my Sonne John Newman all my freehold Landes Tenementes and hereditaments and what soever lyeing and being within the parishes feildes and meadowes of Bradwell aforesaid Stanton Barry and Wolverton in the sayd county of Buckes which Discended and came unto mee onely has heire unto John Newman my Father Deceased To have and to hold the same unto John Newman my Sonne his heires and assigns for ever And for want of heires of his body lawfully begotten I do give and bequeath all those Landes Tenements and hereditamentes aforesaid unto Thomas my sonne Item I give unto the said John Newman my Sonne all those five acres of Arrable land with their appurtenances lying within the fieldes of Bradwell aforesaid which I purchased oft one John Yonge To have and to hold the same unto John Newman my sonne and his heires for ever Provided allways nevertheless and upon Condition That hee the said John Newman my Sonne aquite and discharge my Executors hereafter named use Twentie poundes which I promise to give either in money or goodes unto Thomas Dudley sonne  of Thomas Dudley yeoman late of Woolston Deceased at his age of Twenty and one yeares Item I doe give unto John Newman my sonne his Executors and assignes All my Hovells with postes and rafters thereto belonging And all the fences gates doors rackes mangers in and about the Messuage in Bradwell aforesaid wherein I now dwell (one Hovell standinge  in the middle of the yard there onely excepted). Item I give unto Thomas Newman my Sonne All my Lands Tenementes and hereditaments whatsoever with their appurtenances within the parish fieldes and meadowes of Bradwell and Stanton Barry aforesaid which I lately I bought of Thomas Nicholls and Christopher Goodman To have and to hold the same unto ye said Thomas Newman his heires and assignes for ever Item I give unto my son Thomas Newman the framed Hovell that Standes in the middle of my yard with the appurtenances Item I doe give unto my sonne Thomas All my fire wood lying in my yard and all my plough tymber And my Will is that all those Landes Tenementes and hereditamentes bequeath to my sonne Thomas shall for want of heires of his body lawfully, begotten redonnd?  to my sonne George Newman. Item I give unto George Newman my sonne All my Landes Tenementes and hereditamentes with the appurtenances within the parish fieldes and meadowes of Sherington in the sayd County of Buckes I lately purchased to mee and to my heires of John Terringham Esqr To have and to hold the same unto the said George Newman his heires and assignes for ever And if my sonne George Dye without heires of his body lawfully begotten My will is that my Sonnn Thomas shall heire all those Landes which I bequeathed to my Sonne George Newman Item I doe give unto my Daughter Dorothie Newman the sume of Two hundred poundes of lawful English money to be payd unto her by my Executors hereafter named in forme following To witt One hundred poundes within six months after my Decease And ye other hundred poundes within the next Sixe monthes after And if shee happen to dye before the said money be due unto her My will is that it be equally devided between my other Children Item I doe give unto my Daughter Dorothie a Joyned Bedstead standinge in the Parlour with all the furniture belonginge thereto Item I doe give unto my Daughter Frances one shillinge of currant English money to be payd by my Executors Item I doe give all the rest of my houshold stuffe and implementes of howshold stuffe whatsoever onely being within my dwelling house unto Francie my loving wife Item I will that all the residue of my goodes Chattells unbequeathed my debtes Legacies and funerall expences be payd fulfilled and discharged shalbe equally divided and parted by my Overseers between the said George Newman and Thomas Newman my sonnes Whome I make sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament Alsoe I nominate intreate and ordayne Thomas Newman my Brother and John Wilmin in my loveing friend to be a Overseers of this my last will and Testament And I doe give unto them for the paynes they take five shillinges apeece In wittnes whereof I the sayd John Newman have and to this my last will and Testament sett my hand and seale the Daye and yeare first above written John Newman his marke Signed sealed published and read in the presence of Richard Wynn Thomas Farthait his marke
