In the name of God Amen The fyveth day of June in the Eight yeare of the Reigne of our sovereigne Lord King Charles I William Hampson of Bradwell in the County of Bucks being thankes be to Almighty God in perfecte memorie and in reasonable good health knowinge and considering the uncertainty of mans life in this world Doe ordayne and make this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge First I bequeath my soule to Almighty God trustinge in his infinite mercie and by the merittes death and passion of his onely dearly beloved sonne Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer to fynde grace and mercie and pardon for all my a grievous sinnes and wickedness And my body to be buryed at the discretion of my Overseers Item I deo bequeath to my sonne William Hampson the Messuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell in Bradwell aforesaid wthall edifices and buildinges thereunto belonginge and all the arable landes Closes meadowes pastures Leys enioyed [enjoyed] in Bradwell aforesaid and in Stanton Barey in the sayd Countie of Bucks which came from by several purchases vizt. From Mrs Holhed and her sonne, from Christopher Goodman, from John Blood, from my late brother in lawe Mr Forster, and John Newman. To have and to hold the same and every parte thereof to him and his assignes untill he shall have received and taken the benefitt of three Cropps thereof after my decease, And I do also bequeath unto him my lease of the furzen feild and all my stocke of Corn grayne, hay, and Cattell which I have at the tyme of my decease and all my debtes money and specialties the better to enable him to performe and pay such legacies as here after shalbe mentioned in this my last will Item I doe give and bequeath to my sonne Samuel Hampson the sayd Messuage or Tenement and all other the premises with their appurtenances With all the Deeds evidences and the writinges concerning the same To have and to hould the same and every part thereof to him and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten for ever immediately after that the sayd William my son shall have received the benefit of three Cropps thereof as aforesaid And in the meane tyme the said William my sonne is to maintayne his said brother Samuel with the meat drink lodging apparell and other necessaries fit and convenient for him But if he the said Samuell shall make Choyce to dwell rather with any of his sisters, Jane Elizabeth or Ann Then I doe give and devise unto search of them with whom he shall so cohabit the some of six poundes of currant english money yearley for and towardes his maintenance, to be payd by the sayd William my sonne quarterly at the fower most usuall feastes in the yeare vizt. the Annunciation of the Blessed virgin Mary, the Nativity of St John the Baptist, the feaste of St Michael tharchangell, and the feaste of St Thomas the Apostle, The first payment to beginne at that feaste which shall first happen next after his cohabitation with any of his said sisters, And I doe also devise and appoint that my sonne William shall likewise during the sayd terme pay to my sonne Samuell twenty shillinges yearly by five shillings quarterly out of my said landes in Bradwell and Stanton Barry aforesaid And if it shall happen my said sonne Samuell Hampton to depart this life seised of the premises in Bradwell and Stanton Barry aforesaid without issue of his body lawfully begotten Then I do give and bequeath all the said landes and tenementes with their appurtenances to my sonne William Hampson and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten, And for want of such issue then I doe give and bequeath the same amongst my said three daughters equally to be devided amongst them and to the heires of their bodyes lawfully begotten: and for want of such issue to my Cosen William Hampson sonne of my Cosen of Lancashire and to the heires males of his body lawfully begotten, And for want of such yssue to the right heires of me the said William Hampson for ever Item I doe give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Hampson the somme of One hundred and threescore poundes of currant  English money to be payed to her within one yeare next after my decease And I doe further give and bequeath unto her the bedstead vallance and curtaynes in the hall Chamber the wainscot Chest which she useth the third featherbed and bolster, one pilloe and pillowbeere, two paire of sheetes the third Coverlet, one blancket, the third table cloath, three diaper napkins, and three other napkins A silver spoone called the Mayden head, and one other silver spoone, the third kettle the third brasse pott, six peeces of pewter, and two bookes called Smiths sermonds Item I doe give and bequeath to my daughter Jane  the second feather bed and a bolster one blanckett, the second Coverlett, one pillowe and pillowbeere the second tablecloth three Diaper napkins, the little cupurd in the parlour Chamber, and her mothers booke of Common prayer Item I doe give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth three Diaper napkins, my gold Ring, my Muffe, one paire of sheetes and a booke called the practice of pietie. Item I doe give and bequeath to my grandchild Ann Deane forty shillinges to be payed at her age of fowerteen yeares and then to be put out for her use and benefit by her father or some other friend till she be able to give a discharge for it Item I doe give and bequeath to my grandchild William Caynhoe forty shillinges to be payed and put out in like manner as Ann Deanes is appointed Item I doe give and bequeath to my grandchildren Peter Caynhoe and Henry Deane Fortie shillinges apeece to be payed out and put to my sonne Samuel Hampson out in like manner as Ann Deanes is appointed Item I doe give and bequeath all such somes of money as my corne grayne and hay and all my Cattell (except those in furzen feild ) shalbe praised at in my Inventory, The same to be payd unto him by my executors when the said Samuell shall enter upon my said Messuage in Bradwell thereby to furnish him with Cattell and Corne againe for keeping of his house, And I doe further give and bequeath unto him all such plate goodes and househould stuffe as I shall not otherwise dispose of by this my last will Item I doe give and bequeath to my sister Luck forty shillinges to be payed unto her within one yeare after my decease, and I do give and bequeath unto her Children twenty shillinges amongst them by equal portions, to those that are of age within one yeare after my decease and to the others at their severall ages of One and twenty yeares Item I doe give and bequeath to my sister Clarke two shillinges and six pence Item I doe give and bequeath to my sister Haynes two shillinges six pence, and to her Children sixe pence apeece, Item I doe give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Penn five shillinges at her daie of marriage or age of xxj yeares which shall first happen: And whereas two bookes called Hollin Heddes Cronicles were long since bought of Mr Lane of Courtenhall, and n.te ioynth together thone remaining in my Custodie thother in his, At the tyme of buying ehereof it was agreed betwixt us that the survivor should have both I doe give and bequeath if I be the survivor that wthrs in my Custodie (being the Chronicles of England) to my sonne in lawe Henry Deane, and thother (being the Chronicles of Scotland and Ireland) to my sonne in lawe John Caynhoe, or if they cannot be had then a booke called Spencers verses to my sonne Deane, and another Called the Countesse of Pembrokes Arcadia to my sonne Caynhoe, And whereas my late wief had at the tyme of her decease certen peeces of gould amounting to the some of thirty eight shillinges six pence and also her wedding Ring which in her lyfe tyme she did say her Children should have amongst them, but did not herself dispose of them they beinge in a litle round box in my Deske in my Closet, my will is that my daughter Jane shall have the wedding ring and five shillinges of her mothers gold, and I doe give and bequeath six shillinges and six pence to be added to the Remainder of my wiefs gold which will make it up forty shillinges viz to my sonnes Samuell and William and to my other daughters Elizabeth and Ann tenn shillinges a peece to bee payed unto them with their other legacies Item I doe give and bequeath to my sonne William Hampson and to his heires and assignes for ever my two Tenements and landes with their appurtenances in Carleton in the County of Bedford withall deedes evidences and writingses concerning the same And I doe further give and bequeath unto him Coopers Dictionarie, and Ryders Dictionary and all the residue of my bookes, except my byble which I use my selfe at Church the which I give unto my sonne Samuell togeather with six more which Samuell shall make Charge of Item I doe give and bequeath to my sonne William my best gowne and my best cloake Item I doe give and bequeath to the poore of Bradwell aforesaid twenty shillinges to be delivered to the Overseers for the poore for the tyme being tenn shillinges thereof at Xmas next after my decease, and thother tenn shillinges that tyme twelve moneth to be by them distributed according to their discrecons Item I doe give and bequeath to the poore of the towne of Floore (where I was borne twentie shillinges to be delivered to the Overseers of the poore there for the tyme beinge tenn shillinges thereof at Xmas next after my decease and thother tenn shillinges that tyme twelve moneth to be by them distributed accordinge to their discrecons And I doe ordayne and make my sonne William Hampton my sole Executor of this my last will and testament And I doe desire my very loving friend and Alye Mr Caynhoe Parson of litle Woolson and my sonne in lawe Henry Deane and my Cozine William Penn to be Overseers hereof, and I doe earnestly entreate them to be ayding and assisting to my said Executor and to give him their best advice and I doe bequeath untothem towardes their paines tenn shillinges a peece to be bestowed in A Ring for each of them In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seale perme W: A Coicill or Schedule to be annexed to my Will

Dated the xxjth day of January Ano Dm 1632

Item I William Hampson of Bradwell doe will and require myne Executor forthwith after my decease to buy and provyde the Booke called Jewell and Harding which I bequeath to the parish Church of Bradwell for ever for the better promoteing of godes glory And I desire the Church wardens to provide a Deske and a Chayne to fasten it to, that if may be for the publick use of gods people in the Parish of Bradwell Item whereas I have bequeathed to my sister Clarke two shillinges six pence and as much to my sister Haines my Will is and I hereby further give and bequeath unto each of them two shillinges and six pence a peece more to make up their legacies already bequeathed unto them amount to the somme of Five shillinges a peece Item I doe give and bequeath to my grandchildren Henry and Ann Deane each of them a Tegg to be forth with delivered to their father for the use of them the said Henry and Ann Item I doe give and bequeath to my godchildren twelve pence apeece Item I doe give and bequeath to my grandchildren William and Peter Caynhoe each of them a Tegg to be forth with delivered to their unckle Mr Caynhoe Parson of Litle Woolston to be kept for their use Item I doe give and bequeath to my kinswoman Elizabeth Luck soe much money as will make up her part already bequeathed unto her amount to the some of Tenn shillinges Item I doe give and bequeath to my servant Robert Payne Five shillinges over and his wages Item I doe give and bequeath to my servant Joane Wingfeild three shillinges fower pence over and above her wages, Item I doe give and bequeath to my servant Robert Stubley two shillinges over and above his wages, Item whereas before the marriage of my daughter Elizabeth there was an agreement made and set downe in Writing under the handes of Mr Caynhoe Parson of Woolson and me the said Wm Hampson of Bradwell aswell touching what landes I should be assured by the said Mr Caynhoe for the Joynture of my said daughter as also what portion should be given by me in marriage with her which portion I for my parte have long since fully perfomed and satisfied And yet not with standing  the assurance of the aforesaid landes beinge Coppie hold landes in Cranfeild in the County of Bedford hath not as yet byn fully perfected and recorded within the Court Rolles of the said Mannor of Cranfeild accordinge to the true intent and meaning of our said agreement the said Mr Caynhoe pretending that he is willing and ready to make absolute surrender thereof, but if that hee must driven to pay a fine for it to the Lord, for his owne life t….m if he make any such absolute surrender, I alwaies concerning that what fyne was to be paid should be only paid by him the said Mr Caynhoo yet not withstanding although I have over and above my agreement paid and satisfied for my said sonne in lawe, the some of Tenn poundes at one tyme, at the intreaty of my Cozen Caynhoo with diverse other guifts and gratuities to him, and his in plate househould stuffe or otherwise I am still further willing that if my Cozen Caynhoo will make an absolute surrender of all the said landes in Cranfield aforesaid according to the aforesaid agreement That then my Executor shall forthwith satisfie and pay towardes the Fyne Fyve poundes of lawfull English money which if my Cozen Caynhoo shall refuse to doe then my said Executor shall take some legall course to inforce him thereunto And my will is that this be annexed to my will and taken and construed as part and parcell thereof Perme W.
