HOLLOWES MANOR

 

The former rectorial or mansion house is mentioned in the Will dated 7th March 1767 of William Lowndes left £300 in trust to his eldest son William Lowndes Stone for its repair should a younger son Thomas Lowndes then vicar of Astwood succeed the rector.

Broadmead House was part of Hollowes Manor it passed through ownership of Thomas Kilpin to William Lowndes, Secretary to the Treasury.

On his death in January 1723/24 it passed by Will to William Lowndes of Astwood Bury, his son by his 3rd Wife.

His elder son William Lowndes married Catherine Lowe in 1744 and took the additional name of “Stone” by an Act of Parliament in 1755.

He died in 1773 and his son William Lowndes Stone succeeded his grandfather William Lowndes of Astwood Bury.

From William Lowndes Stone in 1775 the Manor passed to his great grand-daughter Catherine Charlotte Lowndes Stone who married Captain Robert Thomas Norton in 1862.

It was then sold to John Bosworth.
