We were able to visit Apethorpe Palace on one of its rare open days. Although supported by English Heritage, Apethorpe Palace is actually privately owned and is undergoing extensive renovations. Nevertheless, we were able to see many of the rooms, including the long gallery and the bed chamber of James 1. The extensive gardens were also open for us to enjoy.
As it is situated close to Fotheringhay, Professor Stephen Upex completed our day by giving a guided tour of the village.
