The Corps was founded in 1907 to provide assistance to civil and military authorities in times of emergency. It is the world’s longest established uniformed ‘military’ voluntary organisation for women – and today, the only all-women unit left in the UK.
In 2012, during the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Corps supported seven organisations, with 92% of Corps members undertaking one or more roles. Many of the enduring roles currently undertaken by FANY members have evolved as a result of the Corps’ support of the Games. The speaker, Alex Milne, joined the FANY in 2001 and has held the part-time role of Operations Officer since 2010.
