Knowledgeable and experienced speakers are looking to cover widely varying aspects of the Great War.
Helen Frost will be examining the home front, and the experiences of wounded soldiers repatriated home for hospital treatment, with Convalescing at Cottesbrooke Hall.
Major Charlie Barrett will be on the high seas with The Q Ships, those gallant and often overlooked ‘warships’ masquerading as helpless merchantmen-until a German submarine surfaces to sink them, when all hell breaks loose.
Behind the camera lens in Macedonia and Mesopotamia is Nick Higham with his richly illustrated talk Shooting War: The Work of Pioneering WW1 Photojournalist Ariel Varges, who spent four years in Europe as an official cinematographer to the British Army.
There will be a variety of period uniforms about, including Michael Hughes’s The Last Bantam Show, an unforgettable performance about courage, patriotism, and betrayal.
