British art in the early 19th Century was dominated by two singular visionaries, John Constable and JMW Turner.

Both men adopted truly ground-breaking and unconventional approaches, approaches which were often fuelled by a fierce, often bitter, rivalry. They were pitted against the academic establishment, critics and each other as they sought to secure the status of pre-eminent painter of their day.

Speaker: Ed Williams. He works at TATE Liverpool, delivering tours and talks of the collection and special exhibitions and is also an official Green Badge Tour Guide for North Wales. In addition Ed teaches the history of art at the University of Liverpool.

Note. From September 2026, the Society moves to a new venue – the Chrysalis Theatre at Camphill.
