Grafton Regis Village Hall, The Lane, Grafton Regis, Towcester NN12 7HW
In 1464, Elizabeth Woodville, born and raised in Grafton, secretly married Edward IV in our tiny south Northamptonshire village. Their son Edward was to be crowned Edward V in 1483, but disappeared before his coronation along with his brother Richard; they became known as the Princes in the Tower. In the following century, Elizabeth and Edward IV’s grandson Henry VIII, who converted Grafton House into a palace, added the Regis to Grafton’s name.
Take a leisurely Saturday afternoon walk through our picturesque village, discover Grafton’s many extraordinary links with our national history, and meet some of the village’s famous and infamous inhabitants and visitors, in authentic costumes. They range from Plantagenet and Tudor kings and queens to famous religious figures to commoners, dating from Norman times to the present day. And there’s an intriguing link with Shakespeare.
Start at 2.30pm in the uniquely decorated Village Hall, visit the beautiful Church of St Mary the Virgin and its fascinating heritage centre, and return to the Hall for tea and cakes.
The cost is £11.50 for adults, £5.00 for under 16s, and under 5s free. All profits are equally divided between the funds for the maintenance of the Church and of the Village Hall.
