The Killing of the Iron Twelve

Western Front Association Milton Keynes Branch

Friday, 17th May 2019 at 7.30 pm
Roman Park Residents Club, 1 Constantine Way, Bancroft Park, Milton Keynes MK13 0RA

Speaker: Dr Hedley Malloch

In this talk Hedley Malloch will detail how, on 25 February 1915, the Germans shot eleven British soldiers who had been lost during the retreat to the Marne, and one Frenchman, after first making them dig their own graves.

A mystery surrounding the tragedy relates to a twelfth British soldier who may have escaped at the last minute. Who was he and what was his fate? The talk will also consider why, after the war, the British government did nothing about these breaches of The Hague Conventions.

Hedley Malloch’s book The Killing of the Iron Twelve will be published by Pen and Sword Books later this year.

Meetings are open to the general public. We welcome a donation towards the cost of room hire and refreshments – £4 is suggested.
